The 1880 Fischtner Covered Bridge, also known as Palo Alto Bridge, is a historic wooden covered bridge located in Londonderry Township in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. It is a 56-foot-long (17 m), King post truss bridge with low side walls crossing Gladdens Run. The bridge is less than four miles from the Mason-Dixon Line and only about 20 minutes north of Cumberland, Maryland. It is one of 15 historic covered bridges in Bedford County.
Fischtner family legend has it that either Jacob or Johnathon Fischtner built this 56-foot bridge at Palo Alto, leading to its dual identity. A privately owned multiple king-post bridge with horizontal clapboard siding on the lower 1/3rd makes it easy to see the king-post structure. It sits on stone and mortar abutments, with no steel reinforcing. Although this 13-foot-wide bridge is privately owned, it is accessible to visitors who are respectful of the private property.
The bridge was once part of the roadway before it was bypassed. Today, it only accesses a group of private homes.
Fischtner Bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
